Communion Meditation by Jeremy Westbrook When digging deep into the study of a book of the Bible the most important step is often the step most neglected, background and context. We have to understand the book in the three dimensions, who wrote the book, who the book was written to, and why the book was written. In Galatians 1, Paul refutes the idea that in order to become a Christian one must believe in Christ and then follow the Jewish laws that separated them from the rest of the gentile world. Paul would take these arguments all the way back to the original Apostles themselves and points out their own hypocrisy on the matter. Give Online at https://www.millersburgcc.com/give

Paul continues the good fight making sure there are no qualifiers for becoming a Christian and that there are no modifications being made to the Gospel as Jesus presented it. There were those adamant, that if gentiles were to become Christians, then they needed to become like them. It was this belief that to become a Christian you first needed to become a Jew. Jesus’s message is simpler than that; He says pick up your cross, deny yourself, and follow me. Abraham would become the father of the Israelites simply through his faith alone and to top it off, Abraham’s blessing would be not for just the Jewish people, but for all people.
