Galatians: Intro & Galatians 1 & 2

July 6, 2025

Communion Meditation by Jeremy Westbrook When digging deep into the study of a book of the Bible the most important step is often the step most neglected, background and context. We have to understand the book in the three dimensions, who wrote the book, who the book was written to, and why the book was written. In Galatians 1, Paul refutes the idea that in order to become a Christian one must believe in Christ and then follow the Jewish laws that separated them from the rest of the gentile world. Paul would take these arguments all the way back to the original Apostles themselves and points out their own hypocrisy on the matter. Give Online at https://www.millersburgcc.com/give

Galatians 3

July 13, 2025

Paul continues the good fight making sure there are no qualifiers for becoming a Christian and that there are no modifications being made to the Gospel as Jesus presented it. There were those adamant, that if gentiles were to become Christians, then they needed to become like them. It was this belief that to become a Christian you first needed to become a Jew. Jesus’s message is simpler than that; He says pick up your cross, deny yourself, and follow me. Abraham would become the father of the Israelites simply through his faith alone and to top it off, Abraham’s blessing would be not for just the Jewish people, but for all people. Galatians 4

July 20, 2025

In the continuing battle against legalism Paul sets up the precedent that we are all like heirs who are closing to inheriting a large estate. When we are young, having people in charge and having rules in place is designed to keep us safe. As we get older, our relationships with those in charge change and the rules that were once in place to keep us safe are no longer necessary. Jesus is the heir of God and everything that is promised to Jesus in paradise is promised to us as well because Jesus adopts us into that very family. Galatians 5 & 6

July 27, 2025

Paul concludes his arguments that falling under the laws of the Old Testament is and of itself like a form of slavery that Jesus came to set not only the Jewish people from, but the whole world free. Free from slavery, free from sin, free to live a life in the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. To live a life that Jesus’s calls us to is seemingly more difficult that following the law, but all we are asked to do, is Love. Follow Jesus because we love Him. Trust God because we love Him. Share that love with others, because we love them.
